What you'll create

A statement piece for your wall

A warm, glowing mirror that catches the light. It's the kind of piece people stop and ask about, and you'll have made every stroke yourself.

What we'll paint together

Every element, step by step

Follow along as I paint each part of the design, from the first guideline to the last sparkle.

Laying out the design

We set up the guidelines together. No design stencils, just a compass and a few round objects.

The inner dot rings

Rings of dots growing out from the mirror, with little tails and walking dots.

Flowing swooshes

Layers of brushstrokes that wrap around each other all the way around the circle.

Ombré petal flowers

Soft, plump petals that shift in color from one to the next.

Shiny details

Black teardrops, gold "necklaces," micro dots, clear raindrops and stones.

Finishing the mirror

Varnish, stones and setting the mirror in place.

Is this class right for you?

A project class, not a technique course

In this class we paint one complete piece together, start to finish. I share my tips as we go, but I don't stop to teach the basics from scratch. You'll enjoy it most if you already have some experience.

You'll feel at home if you

  • Can make clean, consistent dots
  • Have tried a few brushstrokes, like swooshes or petals
  • Know how to get your paint to the right consistency
  • Want a guided project to paint along with

Your teacher

Hi, I'm Lina

I'm a Ukrainian-born artist in Northern California and a certified art therapy practitioner. I've been dotting since 2016 and have taught more than 1,000 students in over 30 countries.

I don't want you to just copy me. I want you to understand why each dot goes where it does, so you can make your own designs.

My lessons are calm and unhurried. I explain everything as I paint, including my little mistakes and how I fix them.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need experience?

Yes, some. This is a project class: we paint one piece together, and I don't teach the basics step by step. You should be comfortable with dots and have tried a few brushstrokes. If you're new, start with Level 1: Confidence, or with Brushstroke Mandalas (Level 4) for brushwork.

Do I need the exact same supplies?

No. I share exactly what I used and where to buy it, plus easy alternatives. Use what you have and experiment.

What size is the piece?

It's painted on a 22" wood round around an 8" mirror. You can adjust the center measurement to fit a different mirror.

Do I need a stencil for the design?

No. It's completely free flow. You'll only use guidelines, a compass and a few round objects from around the house.

Want more brushstroke practice?

My Brushstroke Foundations worksheets are printable practice sheets. The full Brushstroke Mandalas (Level 4) course goes deep into brushwork, surfaces, color and large pieces.
