Questions answered
Before you ask... here you go.
The questions I get most often, answered honestly. No corporate speak, no fine print. Just the real answers - including the ones I had to think about twice.
I wrote these answers myself. At least one cat was present during the process and had opinions. As usual, I did not ask for them. - Lina
Getting started
How much do I need to spend on tools? +
Under $10 to begin. A basic set of dotting tools costs under $5, and DecoArt Americana paint is around $1 per color. You only need three colors to start: white, black, and one color you love. Level 1 covers exactly what to buy and what to skip in the very first lesson.
What skill level do I need? +
Zero. If you have never held a dotting tool, you are exactly who Level 1 was built for. I designed the entire course around the assumption that you know nothing yet - and I think that is actually an advantage. You come in with no bad habits to unlearn.
I am not a creative person. Can I really do this? +
I work in IT. I have a Fashion Design degree I never used. I genuinely did not think I was a creative person when I started dotting in 2010. Ten years later I am still at it every single day. So yes - I think you can. The structure of dot art is one of the reasons it works for people who don't think of themselves as artists. There is a method. You follow it. Things get beautiful. It is surprisingly logical.
Which course should I start with? +
If you have never dotted before, start with Level 1. It is built for complete beginners and includes the Dreamy Dots mini course free. If you already have some dot art experience and want to go further, Level 2 (Textured Dots) is the natural next step. If you want to understand acrylic mediums before spending money at the art store, the Mediums course will pay for itself quickly.
Your courses
When can I start? +
Immediately. The moment you enroll, everything is available. No waiting, no setup, no onboarding emails to click through. Just log in at DotsByLina.com and your courses are there. On any device, any time, anywhere.
How long do I have access? +
Forever. Permanent access, no subscription, no expiry date. Every course you purchase is yours to revisit whenever you want, for as long as you want. Future updates I add are included automatically.
Are the courses live or pre-recorded? +
Pre-recorded, which I think is actually better for this kind of art. You can pause mid-dot, rewind a technique as many times as you need, and watch at whatever pace works for your life. 6am before the house wakes up, 11pm with a glass of wine - I have seen students do both.
Can I watch on my phone or tablet? +
Yes - any device. Log in on your phone while you paint at the kitchen table, pull it up on a tablet in your studio, or watch on a laptop. The courses are accessible wherever you are.
Is there a community or group for students? +
Yes. When you enroll you get access to a private Facebook group for students. It is a warm, supportive space where people share their work, ask questions, and celebrate each other's progress. I am in there too - I genuinely love seeing what everyone makes.
Your work
Can I sell the pieces I make? +
Yes. Anything you create in my courses is yours completely. Sell it, give it as a gift, display it, do whatever you like with it. I only ask that you don't present the original designs as your own originals. Whether you mention that the design was inspired by my courses is entirely up to you.
Can I teach what I learn in your courses? +
You are welcome to share the joy of dot art and teach the general techniques you learn. What you cannot do is reproduce or resell my course content, videos, materials, or specific curriculum. The knowledge is yours. The course itself is mine.
Payments and refunds
Do you offer payment plans? +
Yes - several courses offer installment options. Level 2 can be split into 2 payments of $80. The full bundle can be split into 4 payments of $87. The Acrylic Mediums + Tea Light + Dreamy Dots bundle is available as 2 payments of $79. All installment options give you immediate full access.
Do you offer refunds? +
I offer a 7-day refund window, provided that most lessons remain unopened. Because these are digital products, I am not able to offer refunds on courses that have been substantially accessed. If you have any doubts before enrolling, please reach out first - I am always happy to answer questions and help you decide if a course is right for you before you commit.
What payment methods do you accept? +
All major credit cards and PayPal through the secure Squarespace checkout. Your payment information is never stored on my site.
The important stuff
Will I see the cats in the lessons? +
Almost certainly yes, at some point. Magnus, Mimi, and Sandra have a long history of appearing uninvited, walking through wet paint, and inspecting work that was not theirs to inspect. I have cleaned more tails than I care to count. They have no remorse and I have accepted this.
Do the cats approve of dot art? +
Sandra is 16 and too distinguished to have opinions about anything except my husband. Magnus will approve of anything that lets him sit on the table. Mimi supervises from a distance and pretends she is not watching. So: yes, with varying degrees of enthusiasm.
Still have a question?
Just ask.
I read every message myself. I am not fast - I also have a full-time job, three cats, and a dotting habit - but I always reply. Give me a day or two.
